Volunteer Opportunities
Cadet Program
The San Mateo Police Cadet Program provides an opportunity for high school and college aged men and women to experience first-hand how a municipal police department functions in the community.
Police Cadets are community service volunteers, between the ages of 14 to 21 years old, who are interested in learning, training, and participating in a wide variety of law enforcement functions and activities.
Cadets must attend regularly scheduled meetings each month and graduate from the Peninsula Law Enforcement Explorers Academy within one year of joining the program.
For more information about the Police Cadet Program, please contact Officer Robert Anderson at (650) 522-7522 x5028.
Reserve Officer Program
The Reserve Officer organization within the San Mateo Police Department is a voluntary organization of responsible men and women from the community who are interested in law enforcement. They are dedicated to assisting the San Mateo Police Department in a wide-range of police functions.
Members of the Reserve organization are sworn police officers who have peace officer status when performing authorized and assigned police duties. Members of the Reserve organization are citizen volunteers and are not compensated for their volunteer duties.
Citizens interested in becoming reserve officers should call (650) 522-7720.
