California Energy & Water Conservation Rebates
Residential Rebates
Pacific Gas & Electric
  • Appliances:
    • Clothes Washer ($50)
    • Dishwasher and Water Heaters ($30 - $50) depending on the efficiency of the product
    • Room Air Conditioner ($50)
  • General Improvements:
    • Attic Insulation ($0.15/sf)
    • Wall Insulation ($0.50/sf)
  • Heating and Cooling:
    • Central Natural Gas Furnace (Up to $300)
    • Whole House Fan ($100)
  • Pool Pumps and Motors:
    • Pool Filtration Pumps & Motors ($100)
  • Appliance Recycling:
    • Refrigerator, Freezer, Room A/C ($35)

California Water Service

  • Washing machine rebates, with PG&E, of up to $125
  • Free conservation kits to customers.  Kits include showerheads, kitchen and bathroom aerators, toilet leak detection tablets, and hose nozzles.

Financial Assistance
  • City of San Mateo Home Energy & Repair Loan Program 
    Offers 3% interest loans for energy upgrades & restorations of owner occupied single-family residences.
  • Pacific Gas & Electric
    • Energy Partners Program: Provides income-qualified customers free energy education, weatherization measures and energy-efficient appliances to reduce gas and electric usage.
    • CARE (California Alternate Rates for Energy) program: Provides a monthly discount on energy bills for income qualified households and housing facilities.
    • FERA (Family Electric Rate Assistance) program: Provides a monthly discount on electric bills for income qualified households of three or more.
    • REACH (Relief for Energy Assistance through Community Help) program: One-time emergency energy assistance to low-income families within PG&E service area who are in jeopardy of losing their electric services.
Federal Tax Credits
Energy Star
Tax credits are available at 30% of the cost, up to $1,500 in 2010 (for existing homes only) for:
  • Windows and Doors
  • Insulation
  • Roofs (metal and asphalt)
  • HVAC
  • Water heaters (non solar)
  • Biomass stoves

Tax credits are available at 30% of the cost, with no upper limit through 2016 (for existing homes and new construction) for:

  • Geothermal heat pumps
  • Solar panels
  • Solar water heaters
  • Small wind energy systems
  • Fuel cells

Special Offers and Rebates for San Mateo

Energy Star appliance rebates program has not started yet.  Each state will determine its own rebate amounts.  The rebate amounts will most likely range from $50-$200.
