Poplar/US101 & Peninsula/US101
Traffic Safety at Poplar, US101 to Humboldt
If you have ever traveled Poplar Avenue, US101 to Humboldt, you can attest to the safety challenges of that corridor. It is one of San Mateo’s most challenging street segments and we are hoping to make it safer for drivers, pedestrians, and local residents alike.
Possible Solutions
Through an updated traffic study in 2011 and a series of community gatherings that began in February of 2010, two options remain on the list of possible short and/or long term solutions to address traffic safety at the Poplar/US101 interchange.
Poplar/US101: Median on Poplar, US101 to Humboldt
We will be commencing the environmental review process, which will include a neighborhood workshop. Residents in the area adjacent to Poplar and US101 will be notified of this meeting. If this option receives environmental clearance, it will be designed and constructed as a short or long term solution to the safety challenges along the Poplar Corridor, US101 to Amphlett. This option has the greatest neighborhood impact.
Peninsula/101: Southbound ramps at Peninsula Avenue using a tight diamond design
We will commence the Project Study Report for southbound ramps at Peninsula Avenue using tight diamond design. Learn more:
