Crosswalks
Crosswalks are marked locations for pedestrians to cross at a controlled intersection which also provides notice to drivers to expect pedestrian crossing at that location.
To protect pedestrian safety, drivers are required by state law,
California Vehicle Code Section 21950, to yield to pedestrians in a crosswalk. Pedestrians also have a responsibility to ensure their own safety and are required by city law,
San Mateo Municipal Code 11.52, to use marked crosswalks in the central traffic district or any business district.
