The San Mateo Public Library possesses the largest business collection in San Mateo County and spends approximately 20% of its annual materials budget on business items and resources and is home to the only dedicated Business Library in San Mateo County.
The Business Library is designed to serve the needs of small business owners, individual investors, and job seekers.
Below are some of the resources and services available:
- The Franklin Templeton Investments Business Specialty Collection consists of 882 reference works and 2,500 circulating titles (most published within the past four years), including materials for starting a new business, low-cost marketing, and legal/tax information for small businesses.
- Electronic database subscriptions including Reference USA, Corptech Business Directory, Business & Company Resource Center, Business Plans Handbook Online, Stat-USA and RAND California statistics. These databases provide mailing lists, prospecting lists, business news, statistical data, and more. Many are available for remote use as well as on the Library premises.
- FREE and low-cost business workshops in partnership with area Small Business Development Centers for startups and existing small businesses. Recent topics include "Free Resources for Starting Your Small Business", "Business Planning", "Basic Bookkeeping", and "How to Obtain Small Business Loans".
- Public computers for Internet access and word processing, and wireless Internet access for laptop users.
The Business Library provides these business services as part of the Peninsula Library System consortium.
