Residents of the City of San Mateo are invited to submit applications to serve on the following City Commission which has two vacancies:

Applicant Requirements
• Resident and a registered voter of the City of San Mateo
• Meeting attendance required
• If appointed, must attend a commissioner orientation session and any training offered
Are encouraged to attend a meeting of the Board/Commission they are applying to serve on

Boards & Commissions Information
COMMUNITY RELATIONS COMMISSION
Meets 3rd Wednesday of each month - 7:00 p.m. – City Hall Conference Room. Addresses a broad spectrum of social and neighborhood issues; provides oversight of: Housing and Urban Development (HUD) related programs; Federal grant programs for public services, housing, and community development; and programs serving the populations most in need. Also serves as a forum for resolving complaints from code violations regarding housing and safety on private properties and oversight of Code enforcement appeals.
LIBRARY BOARD
Meets 4th Monday of each month - 5:30 p.m. – Main Library Cedar Room. Serves in an advisory capacity to the City Librarian, City Manager and Council. Some of the responsibilities include: To oversee the Library department’s policies and to accept in the name of the City, money, personal and real property donated for Library purposes.
PARK & RECREATION COMMISSION
Meets 1st Wednesday of each month - 7:30 p.m. - City Hall Conference Room C.  Makes recommendations to the City Council on the acquisition, development, beautification and maintenance of public parks, landscape resources, public recreation facilities, budget and programs of Park and Recreation activities.
PERSONNEL BOARD
Meets 3rd Tuesday of each month  - 7:00 p.m. – City Hall Conference Room C.  Recommends rules and regulations concerning personnel matters, advises the City Manager regarding personnel matters, and hears appeals from City employees. This board was established in 1943 when the merit system was adopted for City employees.
PLANNING COMMISSION
Meets 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of each month - 7:30 p.m. - City Hall Council Chambers. This Commission was established in 1921 and operates as an advisory board to the Council. The Planning Commission hears requests for: Site Plan and Architectural Reviews (SPARs), Variances, Reclassifications, Special Use Permits, High-rise Buildings, Planned Developments, and EIR's and Subdivisions. Hearings are also held on elements of the General Plan and changes or additions to zoning ordinances.
PUBLIC WORKS COMMISSION
Meets 2nd Wednesday of each month - 7:30 p.m. – City Hall Council Chambers.  Established in 1972, its purpose is to consider the needs of the City for public works and develop policy for construction and maintenance programs, study requests from the public for public works policy and actions, review traffic problems, and recommend actions to the Council.
SENIOR CITIZENS COMMISSION
Meets 2nd Monday, every other month beginning in January – 4:00 p.m. – San Mateo Senior Center. Established in 1986 to encourage, foster and facilitate programs for the enhancement of all matters relating to the social, economic and personal well-being of the senior population. The Commission recommends to the Council establishment and funding of programs and service for senior citizens.
 SUSTAINABILITY COMMISSION

Meets 2nd Thursday of each month - 7:00 p.m. – City Hall Conference Room C.  Established in 2014 and
makes recommendations to the City Council on policies and programs related to the long-term
environmental, economic, and social health of the City of San Mateo.
